Bread Flop

I can't remember when I got this bread cookbook, but I finally cracked it open.

Written by a contestant on the Great British Baking Show known for his bread baking skills, this is a book with recipes that build on each other to teach you to master bread. At least that's what the intro says.

He seemed pretty confident that the recipe can't be messed up.

I did in fact mess it up though.

My problem was timing. Everything came together beautifully. The dough rose nicely. Unfortunately, I got caught up and my bread over proved in the second rise. I formed a loaf anyway, hoping it was salvageable. But, instead of being able to bake it in a timely manner, I had to dash off to my dinner plans. We ended up staying later than anticipated, pushing off the baking time further.

Got home, flat dough. I baked anyway.

Finished product tasted great even though it's flat!

It has a nice crust and great flavor.

Imagine how good it'll be when I don't over prove it! 😅
