So, our countdown has increased in precision. We looked at our church year color chain and discovered we were off by a few days. Our color is now red for Ascension Day, etc. Now that the chain is back on target, they decided to get technical with the countdown on the board. We're now down to 3 1/2 days of school left.
Our field-trip-day-turned-into-a-normal-school-day turned out not too bad. It rained literally the entire school day. We had recess inside and the 8th grade boys convinced me to let them play hockey (it had been outlawed since there were so many hard feelings and injuries). In the morning, we practiced our song for Sunday, read a lot of our book (yep, there were cliff-hangers... they wanted me to read "just one more chapter!" but I peeked at the ending of that chapter and there was an even worse cliff-hanger, so we quit while we were ahead). We had our last Junior Achievement session and only one round of Daily 5. Since we couldn't do our originally intended balloon activity today (watch a cannon fire in real life), I changed it to "get to play Oregon Trail during computer time". Then they all thought we should just watch a Wishbone episode instead... hmm... I liked that idea better, and with a nearly unanimous class vote, we decided to have our prize be to watch a Wishbone episode. We watched the one that goes with Treasure Island where Sam and the boys get locked in a barn and it starts on fire.
In the afternoon, we did a little more of our science lab on circuits. We talked about open vs. closed circuits and conductors and insulators. Our experiment tomorrow is to test whether an object is one or the other. Hopefully they have fun. We have a few more "fun" labs that are science related but aren't part of the curriculum that are on the agenda for next week. That and one more chapter of MN history...
Tomorrow's balloon activity: drink Gatorade/PowerAde/juice/lemonade in class (normally I only let them drink water).
