Word of the Day

Our read aloud book had a good word: copse. As in 'a copse of trees'. After learning this word, my students had the great idea to have a word of the day. The helper of the day gets to pick it. He or she writes the word on a little whiteboard display I hung up on one of our cabinet doors along with the definition. They explain what the word means after they do the DOL challenge on the board before English. Then I think we decided everyone has to use it in a story or a sentence or something to show that they get what the word means. Good idea! Tomorrow is the first day of using it when the student picks the word. (Today's word was copse).
