Speaker

We finally had our Asia speaker come today! After rescheduling at least twice (if not three), Sophie visited our class. She was an excellent presenter and answered the students' questions very well. She didn't have a ton of slides to show us, but we came up with questions anyway. She attended a WELS high school in Michigan and now goes to MLC. She became a Christian because she saw a flyer for English camp in the grocery store one day when she and her mom were shopping. She thought it looked fun and signed up. It was run by a WELS affiliated English program (they send missionaries to China to be teachers and then do bible studies/church on the side). Eventually she and her mom became Christians and she was baptized her senior year of high school in Michigan! Awesome!

That leaves only one more continent for us to visit this year: Oceania (aka, Australia). There aren't any MLC students who have visited or are from that part of the world, so I'm going to reach out to the pastor from Peace in Mankato (he's from Australia). I will probably wait until after Easter though, since Lent is always busy for church workers. After that last continent, we'll be finished with Geography for the year... I'll have to find more things for the 7-8th graders to learn. Right now my plan is to pick up where we left off in American history two years ago (I think they were the class we didn't get much past the Civil War).
